The Central Okanagan School District serves citizens living in four communities (Kelowna, District of Peachland, District of Lake Country and the District of West Kelowna), near the midpoint of the Okanagan Valley. The District stretches for 60 km along the shores of Lake Okanagan. Although the regional adult population is growing, the number of new students entering the School District in Kindergarten has shown a slight decline over the past 10 years. In School District No. 23, the Board is comprised of seven elected citizens. Trustee elections are held every three years in conjunction with municipal elections.

UBC Okanagan opened in September 2005 as a distinctive, small university campus.
